Wow! you guys did something that i always wanted to do! that little piston by the center wheel… I see it… Awsome design :yikes:
that mast aluminum is really shiny!
But on a more serious note, are there any better pictures of the brake that we can see? Also, what inspired the octagonal drive base? Was it the 179 base, or was it simply convenient or what?
Thanks in advance.
Yes we got the awesome idea from 179 and with this design it made the robot much more difficult to hit without ricocheting off. Also, we built a prototype in the preseason that was very similar in style and while testing the prototype we would run into objects and we were translated sideways, as opposed to being spun around, without any harm to either thing.
We’ll see if we have any close-ups of the brake. If so we’ll post them. The brake was actually made so that we wouldn’t have to worry about any other robots messing with us at the rack. Or even if we were sitting on someone’s robot and we are at a slant and worried that it would knock us off, we just engage the brake.
dude wow that is an awesome idea! what do you use as the brake? i’m very curious… but anyways, awesome robot.
I just love the look of brushed aluminum!
The brake is a 3/4" dia x 1" extension cylinder. We made the brake shoes from steel plate. 1/4" dia bolts are the guides. angle for the mounts, and wheel tread for the brake pads.
