This is one of the projects I get to work on - SWORDS. It is an absolute dream to be building robots for real! When I applied for this job at Foster-Miller, I told them I had been doing FIRST for about 7 years. The guy interviewing me (now my boss) was very interested in FIRST… now I’m spreading FIRST Fever to Foster-Miller!
OMG that is freakin’ CRAZY!!! It’s like one of the coolest thing I’ve ever seen!
Needs more GREEN.
Showing off again Jake?
The big question is … Can you get it to balance two goals on a teeter-totter bridge?
I bet that thing could beat up your Autonomous ATV. Bring it to Drexel next year and let’s see.
I plan on applying to Foster-Miller for co-op. It looks like an awesome place to work.
One of our college mentors co-oped there for 6 months and she’s going back again. She was directly programing one of the robots that they have. She did a lot of work for them and loved it. I’m thinking about going there for my third co-op. It sounds really cool to work there.
Is that 48’s improved-defense 'bot for the Championship?
With those treads they might be finally able to stop 1114.
Am I seeing this correctly? This is a robot that is designed to kill people? Am I the only one that has a problem with that?
EDIT? I really don’t know. Is that black thing on there some sort of gun? Or is it something else, or for some otherpurpose?
aparrently so…
well in the wrong hands it would be bad but you know, anything that moves on its own and is armed down to the last bolt is still pretty awesome
I expect you are not.
Would you feel better about the robot if it had de-mining devices on it instead of guns?
What’s on the robot is what seems like a M249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon).
This vehicle is capable of mounting the M249 or M240. Weight is approx 250# fully loaded. Max speed around 5mph. 4-6hr battery life with the option of “sleeping” for up to 7 days. And it is a blast to drive.
WOW. I hope that I don’t wear any green around that.
It is probably not stretching things to assume you mean “blast” literally!
What’s the armor on it? Surely it’s made to take some bullets.
First year coops won’t get a job at foster…thats just how it is…
It is armored by Foster-Miller’s own LAST Armor - very nice.
When you interview, be sure to mention that you were in FIRST. I even brought in pictures of the robots I worked on and close-ups of the parts I worked on. If you interview in the TALON group, the guys that interview you LOVE to see videos - it is totally cool to bring in a laptop and show short clips of your robots in action. It sure helped me!
Ha ha very funny.
“Insert Hyperlink to video of GTR Qualifying Match 60 here”
Yep, that was a great match. I recall you guys spent a lot of time in between 1114 and the rack, but I have not found the video yet so I can watch it again. Now that your teams are both in Curie, we will get to see more like that.
