Rookie team 2108’s ramps became stuck on the Rack, and 540 had to push them off. These two teams went on the be the winning alliance at VCU.
Same thing happened alot at PNW regional…
Tons and tons of robots have gotten stuck up on the rack. Some have actually tipped over.
The VCU triplets also seemed to get stuck on the rack quite often. The Hokies (401) got stuck also, and were then tipped over by the opposing alliance.
has anyone else noticed noticed that we havn’t seen much of the dreaded yellow card.
at GSR bots were slaming into each other, but i didn’t see the card until the finals. even then it was for bad sportsmanship not robot violence.
antway cool pic hope your bot was ok and that is my observation one of the new game elements.
At VCU the Yellow Card was given to team 122 (NASA Knights) for habitually exceeding 72" outside of the home zone. 122 was using their ramp to help them to block the Rack. Team 414 was also given a yellow card, for playing stiff defense.
Yeah, that Rack is actually starting to scare me, its tricky business trying to score without getting caught on the rack, especially while you have defense on your bot. I almost had a heart attack a couple times seeing how close we got to tipping after being hooked on the spider feet, but thankfully we haven’t tipped happened yet, even with our 10 foot tower sticking up the entire match. Hooray for low CG’s!
Nice move “unsticking” your alliance partner. I always love it when I see robots uprighting other bots, like that time when I believe 25 kept 968 from tipping at the championships last year. That was insane
Great example of teamwork, Congrats on the win guys
Team 843, our Canadian friends, got a yellow flag for going into the other teams player zone. Thats why we were DQed.
we were on 414’s team when they got that yellow flag. I didn’t see anything wrong with what they were doing. It wasn’t anything that i didn’t see 10 times before that match and 15 times after. I wish someone would define “agressive defense” for me. they weren’t tipping or ramming from a large distance.
I guess that Lisa (Head Ref at VCU) just decided that 414 had been too aggressive with their defense throughout their qualification matches. Maybe she just wanted to prevent 414 from getting themselves into the situation of accidentally tipping another bot and being DQed.
Is this the part where 540 got stuck on the rack?
I only recall 540 getting stuck… And I saw most of the matches; it wasn’t that often.
I also recall another team getting DQ’ed for intentially tipping another robot on Friday. However, people claimed that all 66 teams were competing on Saturday. :-\ Can’t remember the team though.
I was a volunteer and doing field reset and was able to watch many of the matches. I am pretty sure that 384 and 1086 also got stuck, along with 401 and 2108.
The DQ was for the team that tipped 401 after 401 became stuck on the rack. A DQ only lasts one match, the team can come right back and play in their next match. If their alliance wins the match that they were DQed in, the team that was DQed does not get credit for the win.
The team that got the DQ was attempting to right 401. they had this wedge shaped front end that just tipped them over.
If I recall correctly, 401 and the other team were on opposite alliances. Even if they were trying to help 401, the refs called it as intentional tipping because they pushed 401 from the front, not from the back.
Correct, 384 was momentarily stuck, and 1086 was stuck enought to actually bend their mechanism as a 45deg angle  But yea, I’m pretty sure we only got stuck once or zero times, because I remember being behind that player station and going “Holy smokes! NO!!! Flip down and reverse out!” I’m the human player so either I was day dreaming, or my eyes just zoomed in and saw it happen to 540… I have no clue…
Good times at VCU though…
1086 after being bent:
ahhh … jeez… anyone remember 540s match where we got pushed into the rack then were stuck… ahh good times
wow. That looks bad.
That’s why we have spares my friend.
