Inspired by David Kelly's "hand" avatar and by the "CD Member in Hospital" thread, I decided to post this picture of the result from my latest misadventure.
I've been riding my bicycle to and from work on the days when I don't go to the gym before work. Last Thursday on my way home, I was a little careless, and didn't get my foot securely clipped to the pedal as I was starting out from a stop sign. (Not a good idea if you're an aggressive rider, as I am.) Well, as I was accelerating hard, my foot slipped – which threw me off balance, and I flipped right over the handle bars. (Or something like that. It happened so fast that I can't really say exactly what happened.)
Anyway I picked up myself and my bicycle, and, dusting off my ego, assessed the damage: Not too much blood, and my right pinkie was a little sore (and a little crooked.) I would have continued riding, but the rear wheel was bent, so the bike was unridable .
To humor my wife, I let her take me to the emergency room where they x-rayed it and told me it was broken, and that I had to see an orthopedist. The orthopedist said I needed to have a hand surgeon set it. Finally, on Wednesday I had surgery to put three pins in my pinkie to hold it together while it heals.
As you can see from the picture, even though the bandage is bulky, it hasn't slowed down my computer use (too much.)
I also wanted to comment on your awesome mouse. I have the same one, and it’s great. I’m thinking of switching to the Blue Tooth model when this one burns out.
^ I had the same exact thought when I viewed that picture (after, of course, hoping that the hand heals soon). I love that mouse! The bluetooth versionis out, but I can’t really justify the extra money. I don’t understand why they are charging $30 more for bluetooth, and it’s not like it will be easier to use with a laptop because you still need the base station to charge it.
I was considering posting about the mouse earlier, but I realized how ridiculous and rude it would be. But now that I’m just one of a ridiculous and rude crowd, yeah, I have that mouse, and it rocks. Cept for the time I came home and it was really, really hot and didn’t work anymore. They sent me a new one, though. If yours breaks, take it apart, its got some interesting stuff inside.
Anyway, I like how you just smoothed over the fact that you didn’t even consider going to the hospital but ended up with 3 pins in your finger. Maybe your wife made a good decision? Get better soon
