An early view of Team 1676’s 2008 robot. Sitting in front is a mentor who literally lost his head (with safety goggles) when the claws got him… (Believe me?)
Thats why in our shop safety glasses are always worn either around your neck or your forehead… stuff like this never happens lol
On a side note good looking bot looking gripper lol, having a bit of trouble figuring out what the bot does tho, maybe just the angle of the picture. Is there an arm behind it?
Since only 1 of the 4 humans has a normal head, how does your team come up with robot designs?? (Or is there something you’re not telling us-- such as, there is actually only 1 human, and the other 3 are 'droids your team secretly created during the off season?)
Yup,
Been there done that.
I bet a lot of mentors lost their heads this building season :ahh:
We utilize clone labor. It’s a secret. *
The gripper is made from a composite material consisting of end-grain balsa wood laminated with a fiberglass skin. Incredibly light and strong. The grippers rotate downwards (towards the camera) once the match begins and remain horizontal most of the time, riding up and down on the angled tracks.
The entire gripper + shuttle assembly weighs less than 20 pounds…including paint.
Stop by, say hello, and have a closer look if you’re in NJ and Toronto.
