pic: How to scare engineers

How do you scare the bejeepers out of 2 mechanical engineers?

Put them on the X-Scream ride on the top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas and they start to wonder about the limited mechanical and electrical systems that keep them from plunging 1,000 feet to the streets below.

We went there last year and could not overcome the engineer’s grasp of probability…so we stayed off the rides. But we did have fun looking at the structures.

Such things scare us mere mortals as well. That’s why I stay off of things like that.

Is Andy wearing a Star Trek shirt?

That’s looking like one of the polos from IRI 2008. The yellow that we are looking at is the state of Indiana with the I as part of it.

I might be wrong but I think that’s what it is. The men’s were this light blue color, the women’s were a light aqua. It was the judges’ shirt.

That looks like a hair raising adventure.

Is it that you don’t trust magnetism, Andy, or is that you don’t trust the bolts holding the magnets in place?

This should be renamed how to scare anybody. Did you guys go on any of the other rides?

btw, what was Andy doing in Vegas so recently? My son and I were there Saturday night on our way back from Speed Week at Bonneville.

I’m sure if you think that’s too scary, then you won’t be trying this one any time soon:

Think bungee jumping, but without the cord.

Since I’ve already done bungee jumping, this one is def. on on my to-do list.
Someday… Now just to figure out how & when to make it to Wisconsin.

Oh, the X-Scream is also on my list.
Yeah, I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie.

Edit:
And… Ahahahhahaha! Nice Sputnik shirt.woot.com shirt there!

You must of watched the same show I did that was on not too long ago?

Indeed I did. Extreme Thrill Rides or something like that.
The X Scream, & Terminal Velocity was shown, as well as some others, like Kingda-Ka from Six Flags over NJ.

I tried going on Kingda-Ka, but it was closed due to some bad weather the day I was there.

Andy was not wearing a Star Trek shirt. However, on a curiously related note, ask Greg where he went right after the trip to the top of Stratosphere… (I wouldn’t go with him this year either. The idea of the NASA guy wandering through the Star Trek Experience was just a touch too nerdy, even for me).

.

Dave I am sure at some point in your life you will look back and be sad that you never visited the star trek experience, as it is closing for good next week.

And no, those pictures of me in the enterprise captains chair will never make it to chiefdelphi.

The x scream has been stuck twice hanging over the side of the stratosphere here in vegas a couple of times. The only reason i will not go on the ride…

 i want to try that, it looks fun

Heh, heh, heh, wanna bet?

For unto us, God hath given Heidi. And Heidi is adorned with Photoshop. And from Photoshop shall spring forth all forms of images, both amusing and profane. And none shall be safe from the Photoshop-wielding Heidi.

Key word - Tribbles.
Then Tribbles.

Then more Tribbles.

Greg + Tribbles = Trouble.

Can we change the focus of this thread back to Andy and how he almost wet his pants on those 3 rides?

Meanwhile, those of us stuck back on terra firma were off having other adventures like this.

Walking on Fremont St? OOOOO feel the rush!
