pic: NYC Regional Champions - Improvised Triple Balance

While strategizing together, our alliance realized we had a unique possibility of a triple balance. By utilizing 522s bridge manipulator to lift themselves up, the slanted shape of 1635s rear frame and the strong drive systems of 1635 and ourselves, we could pinch 522 up high on us, creating plenty of ramp space.

This picture depicts our first (and sloppiest) balance of the eliminations. Once we realized this was doable, we continued to tune and refine the process steps to make the entire routine very repeatable.

A POV view from our robot of the triple balance can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLVzKXTGX7Q&feature=youtu.be

The NUTRONs would like to thank our partners 1635 and 522 for a tremendous alliance and successful elimination tournament. Also a massive tip of the cap to our opponents 195, 369 and 333 for a great set of finals matches. So much strategy involved in those matches made for a very compelling show I’m sure.

The NUTRONs also would like to thank our friends from around the country for the kind words, compliments and support.

We now have our sights set on the Boston regional this weekend and look forward to competing with teams there!

The repeatability of this feat was truly successful. Great work 522, 125 and 1635! Good luck to Robo Wizards at Long Island and Nutrons at Boston! Hope Technotics are able to go to Champs as well!

When I saw this on the webcast I was like “there is NO WAY they can do that again…pure luck” Boy did you guys prove me wrong… and it was fun to watch too!!

I’m glad 522 was able to see this “so, we’re going to just shove your robot between ours, and it will pop out in the middle” strategy pay off. What this lacks in grace is gained with sheer talent.

Actually, after a few matches the triple balance became pretty fluid and elegant.

I so wish I could’ve seen this in person. I had another event to tend to but seeing the picture of 522 perched up on top of not one but two robots I was like how in the heck did they manage that.

Awesome stratedgy by NYC’s #1 Alliance - Job well done and good luck to th teams and their future events they plan on attending =).

There is some discussion on whether or not this balance should have counted.

Here is a full field video from the blue side of the field.

Now you can judge for yourself. I will be posting the rest of our matches in elims over the next few hours, which will show how much we improved the process as eliminations moved forward.

Let’s see… two refs look closely at it, one of whom had it happen directly in front of him… it doesn’t look like it touches the top of the guardrail…

You bet it’s a triple balance. And if that’s a sloppy one, I’d hate to be behind the glass on the other side of the field to see the non-sloppy ones! (Now, how about some of the robots designed to do this do it faster?)
