After testing multiple different combinations of wheels, the most unlikely wheel was the most consistent. If you come by our pit in St. Louis you will be able to see it on Battering Ham in person.

Is that a lunacy wheel? We have a few laying around but we would never consider using them on our robot. Glad it’s working well for you guys.

It would be pretty great if you guys just decided to hand out oreos in your pit :slight_smile:

In other news, is that chain tensioner an aluminum hex standoff?

Agreed I have one sitting in my room now and I would never think they would be a good choice.

Correct, just as a temporary replacement for our belt. It’s not the best but it’s sufficient for one day of testing.

What reduction are you using on that pair of 775pros out of curiosity?

The gearbox is a 1:1. So no reduction.

What compression?

Also have you guys tried running wider wheels or multiple wheels in a line? That seemed to help with accuracy and power over doing the small-big-small wheeled approach.

I came into this thread hoping for a bacon-stuffed Oreo (hey, it’s not out of the question. Have you SEEN the Oreo fillings that have been out lately?)

The ball gets compressed about two and a half inches. We have not tried more than the one lunacy wheel, the smaller wheels are simply be used as flywheels. The compression seems to be only relevant to the friction, which to limit the rotational energy so that more of the total energy goes towards transnational. This gets a straighter shot, one without backspin, allowing us to be very accurate close up.

Looks like you guys were using your wheels for a much more constructive purpose than we were. We just ran ours at ridiculous speeds and let it bounce on the floor while spinning. We regret that, as it was quite dangerous.
