This is a picture of team 1902’s latest pigging spree. It’s a fundraiser where we put signs in friends yards and leave a packet of info at the door proclaming prices to A) get the pigs out of yard, B) send pigs to someone els’s yard C) Make your yard “pig proof” so that the pigs can’t come back. It’s a fun and fairly easy way to raise money and get your name out into the community
That is a really cool idea. I wish my team could pull something like that off, but pigs are SO much cooler than dragons. Also, isn’t that Barry Bonzack of 1390 in that picture?
Brilliant! I really think the 3rd option is really innovative, haven’t heard of that before with the “flocking” that some companies do.
Why yes Michelle it is…he heard exploding pigs…thought we were having a Bar-B-Que. Cant keep him away when there is free food around
If you wouldn’t mind disclosing (if that’s even the right word for it) how much you guys made from this fund raiser, I think that might be really helpful to any team who tries it themselves.
As for Barry…he tends to pop up EVERYWHERE.
Like at 1065’s car wash…
well it’s still going on so I can’t give you a definate amount but it costs 20.00 to have the pigs removed, 35.00 to have them removed and put in a yard of your choice, and 50.00 to do all of the above AND “pig proof” your yard.
When a student has a yard they want pigged they get half of the money from the chain into their “travel/obligation” account, and the other half goes towards the team. so if I picked a yard to be pigged and the owner gave 50.00 I would get 25.00 and the team as a whole would get 25.00. Then if the owner of the yard wanted to send it to another house the credit would go to the student who started the chain.
Hope this helps:yikes:
I’ve always found this style of fundraiser interesting and I imagine it can get rather humorous. (The Latin Club at one of my team’s schools does it, only with pink flamingos) But, I’m always skittish of suggesting it to the team because I’m worried about people getting angry and having a negative opinion of us thereafter. Have you ever had any problems like this?
actually so far we’ve had a very positive response. Everyone seems to find the humor in it. The key is to start with people who you know fairly well and they send them to people they know fairly well and then it all becomes a joke between the people in the chain.
hehe not at all actually people are quite positive about it. Two nights ago we did a drive by pigging where we stuck the pigs in the yard as we drove/walk by and as we went up to do it the Owner of the house actually walked outside to let his dogs out.
He noticed something was odd as there was 10 teenaged team members and a few adult mentors, hiding behind a suv parked in front of his house and a car with its lights off in the middle of the street.
He remained outside for an extended period of time until eventually one of the younger members ( who’s house it was to pig ) finally just went up to him and asked him to go inside, and explained the reason. He ended up just cracking up laughing and brought his dogs inside and we proceeded to pig.
Granted its much funnier when its spontaneous and you don’t know its going on, however its entertaining and innovative none the less. It really isn’t too much money to ask for either so people seem to be willing to send it along and prank their friends and neighbors.
I have to admit this is idea puts the “fun” in fundraiser. Visiting 1902 is always a trip, never quite know what they’ll have me doing.
And just so no one gets confused… yes, I’m in the picture. I’m in the 25 shirt… James is in the 1604 shirt.
Barry, how much, can I pay with PayPal, and do you make special trips to Kissimmiee and Sarasota?
Ack, if only we had heard of this before the snow came…I don’t think anyone wants to go around in the middle of the night in the weather we’ve been having lately…
That’s a great fundraising idea. It looks like a lot of fun.
We aren’t opposed to a Kissimmee run.
Don’t listen to him, I live in Kissimmee, but I wouldn’t mind putting some money up to have you guys go out to Sarasota:rolleyes:. I guess I just have to get a neuralizer from the good ol’ men in black and wipe Barry’s memory of where I live…but if you do go into Kissimmee, I have some ideas for you guys that aren’t my house.
Wow. that is awesome. I have nver thought of something like that. We too hav a system where you have your travel credit obligation. BUt gettign that money like this is just plain awesome.
is that Dan’s house?
Nope, can’t pig anyones house thats already on the team. so…that leaves your house open right?
So I just rediscovered this image, and I’m totally passing this on. (I guess 1618 could, uh, capitalize people?)
One question, though–how do the folks who’ve been pigged go about contacting the team to de-pig their yards?
A few questions:
-Why would I pay to have them removed when they have no right to be there and I could just remove them myself?
-What stops me from recognizing them as “abandoned”, claiming them as my own, and throwing them away, burning them, etc?
-What stops someone from calling the cops on you for vandalism or trespassing?
once we have pigged someone’s house we leave a packet that includes info on the team, the fundraiser, and how to contact us for removal of the pigs.
