At $330 each, the use of these would be prohibited by prior season’s cost accounting rules, no?
Things may change in 2010, of course, but consider that these may not otherwise meet COTS criteria.
No the limit has historicaly been $400.
Just to get us used to answering questions by quoting the rules. This is from the 2008 manual (didn’t have the 2009 handy.)
Section 8 - The Robot
<R23> The total cost of all non-Kit Of Parts items shall not exceed $3,500.00 USD. No individual item shall have a value of over $400.00. The total cost of COMPONENTS purchased in bulk may exceed $400.00 USD as long as the cost of an individual COMPONENT does not exceed $400.00.
Yeah, that’s true. Carry on. I may have been confused by the $200 limit on electronic components or, more likely, have been making stuff up entirely.

M, allow me to use you as an example of why everyone should always read the latest rules. You’re referring to <R49>…from 2006!
(Since the 2007 season, electronics have been covered under the $400 (USD) per part limit, rather than their own, lower limit.)
I always try to lead by example! I am trying to abide by rules that haven’t existed for longer than a lot of people have been involved in FIRST. Outstanding.
Next, someone’s going to tell me we can buy stuff from places other than Small Parts, Inc.!

I saw one team in galileo that was using them. Dont remember the team number but I definitely saw them
I remember seeing at least 2 teams with them.
I believe one of the Championship award winners had them as well, but I could be wrong…
frc2839, The Daedalus Project, had them in Atlanta.
They also won the Imagery Award.
I can’t quote numbers but these units are in the field and in use by FIRST teams.

I was wondering if you had any pictures of these modules in an “exploded” type state? Maybe some of the individual components??
For my capstone project at Northeastern (last summer) I built a swerve drive and to say the least our modules look extremely similar. Im sure its due to the 118 influence. Thats where my curiosity is coming from.

The stock version is intended to be clamp mounted using a shaft collar. You could also replace the main pivot support with your own flanged bushing and plate setup.
1 year, 7 months, and 2 days later, this is revived.
Does anyone have any video of this being used, or robots in competition using it?
