pic: Solidworks Blue Nitrile Tread Appearance File

I created a Solidworks appearance file for blue nitrile tread. If anyone wants to make their renders a bit more realistic you can download it here:

Thank you.

In the past, I modified the knurling appearance for blue nitrile which looked… somewhat questionable.

Next, a bump-map…

Nathan I thought you learned your lesson with three bolts in the wheel.

Has anyone actually had problems with that for reasonable-grade steel bolts (as opposed to crappy stainless ones)? For some reason, I’m having a hard time seeing 3 grade-8 steel bolts failing in that manner.

Any way we can get this for inventor? Could you include an image file so one can be made for inventor?

lol in this application you could use 1 bolt, it’s simply keeping the 2 wheels next to each other on the hex shaft which is taking all the torque. But yes 3 in shear, never again.

Here is the image I used http://i.imgur.com/WfBfA7v.jpg I distorted it so the grid is perfectly square and will pattern well.

This is a very expensive wheel configuration!

I just realized we have a bunch of inch thick aluminium plate in the shop that we are never gonna use for anything, I guess we could CNC our own. We have never tried anything like that as all we have in that department is a table top mill. COTS is nice, but I guess it’s worth a shot if it could save us a few $100 over the entire robot.

Beautiful render. Thank you for sharing your SolidWorks image.

Wait, is it just me, or does “minimum pulley diameter: 63m” (<- other units on page are metric as well) seem a little off?
I want to see what a 63m pulley looks like. do they exist?

I think they are missing a second “m”.
McMaster says it is 2.5in which is ~63mm :stuck_out_tongue:

The appearence doesn’t really work in solidworks 2013…
I went to appearence-> advanced-> add file-> tread p2m.
Am i doing it wrong?

What do you mean by “doesn’t really”? I find that after I do that, if I go to the “mapping” tab and change “automatic” to “surface” It looks better. If it’s not loading the file at all it might be because I generated the file in SolidWorks 2014-2015. Your team should probably upgrade anyway. Alternatively you can use the image file http://i.imgur.com/WfBfA7v.jpg to create your own.
