…??? What kind of mechanism holds the gear so tight that this happens?? Was this at a competition?

How did you manage that?

Was that caused by the peg?

I’ve seen a few pictures of gears impaled on pegs… pretty stunning to me that the peg tip can do that to a gear!

Yes, peg tip. We were approached by the LRI and asked to avoid doing this again. However, after further look, there were a lot of stress points on the gear. I suspect, we weren’t the first to hit this gear at that particular point.

Regardless of how loosely or tightly a robot’s mechanism holds the gear, the physics of the gear-to-barb interaction will result, at times, in no other alternative for the barb…
