Just a tip for any future iterations: use the mounting holes of the CIM for standoffs. You can thread the screws going through the standoffs into the CIM and never need to worry about nuts.

Wouldn’t this make it harder to change out the motor, or the gear on the motor? When you take out those screws, the whole box falls apart then :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, usually the screws in the CIMs aren’t the only thing holding the gearbox together. The WCP DS uses this, and I believe it’s a fairly common feature of 971 gearboxes, among other teams.

The CIM standoffs and the CIM screws are separated in our gearboxes. We have used PEM nuts in the gearbox for some time for fastening. They get pressed into the sheetmetal and work really well for us.

In hopes of not derailing the thread original purpose completely, I’d be curious in hearing from 1241 what we some of the specific changes they made this year and how they turned out for them. Would you guys do the same thing again?

The main change from the standard AM shifter is that the sprocket placement is now on the outside of the gearbox, which allowed us to change or drive ratio easily if we found our calculations to be incorrect or not ideal. This also allowed for quick one time assembly of the gearbox.
The concept worked very well for us this year as we did find the need to change ratios early on in competition, however we might switch the final ratio to gears.
Another change I know we will definitely do for the future is swap to aluminium gears. we happened to buy 2 full set of steel gears right before vex pro launched there new product line.:rolleyes:
We also have used PEM nuts in the past but have found them to be more of a hassle than locknuts.
