Team 125 proudly presents our 2009 creation: CROSSFIRE

This is the practice robot so it does not have the aesthetically pleasing appeal that the competition robot does. In this picture it is not 100% complete, but it is most of the way done.

Quick specs:
4WD - 1 CIM per side
Single speed ~9.5 fps
Traction control system:
-Follower wheels to determine ground speed
-Encoders to determine actual wheel speed
Ground Pick-up
Human Loading
28 Ball capacity
270 degree turret with camera tracking
Range of about 7-8 feet

Watch us competing this week in Boston, and at the championship in Atlanta!

Do I spy a little custom made FP transmission?

Nice robot! video soon?

What are those rollers made of?

Looks good 125 good luck in Boston!

Yes you do spy a custom little FP tranny. It is essentially just the first 2 reductions in the KOP FP gearbox with some tweaks to provide durability of the gears as well as adapt a 2nd FP motor. The output is ~1000 rpm. This drives the elevator system.

I’ll work on getting a solid video tonight.

The rollers are 2" sched 40 PVC with solid PVC inserts in the ends. The inserts each have a needle bearing pressed into them. There is then sched 80 PVC “rings” slid and glued on over the sched 40. The entire roller was then coated with spray on plasti-dip.

Keep the questions coming.

This is so similar to an idea a few of our team members had and prototyped with Knex. After they built it, they were talking about making a few small changes, which would have made them virtually similar.

Also, is there going to be a hopper on your robot, it looks like it?

That KNEX prototype is very similar.

There is polycarb that surrounds the 4 black uprights you see. The robot is very difficult to work on with those there so what you see here is the hopper sans polycarb. With the polycarb on there it brings our capacity to 28 balls.

Looks alright, I guess.

Looks very similar to 254/968’s 2006 robot.

I like it

Sick bot Brandon. I was really waiting for this, turned out great! Good luck this weekend. Somebody tagged this with 1251 as well. Interesting…

why only 4wd?

we did some testing with our old drive train that was retrofitted with rover wheels. We determined that we needed to shorten the wheelbase to accommodate trailing the goal
