pic: Team 1523 2017 Teaser

A little bit of a teaser for what is to come in our 2017 season…

I spy vectored intake wheels that aren’t part of intakes…

Except for last year 1523 has done vectored intake wheel drive every year 2011 and on. I have to ask though… why the 1 ball wide intake? Is there some kind of flip down intake to feed the balls into the hole?

Our intake was a last minute add-on around week 2 or 3… we don’t intend on using it unless we really feel like we need to.

And yes, we’ve found a lot of success with meca- “Vectored Intake drive wheels” so we continued the trend into this year.

Cool little teaser, looking forward to seeing you all Saturday at Scrimmage. If not then South Florida

We’ll definitely be down there on Saturday, we’re really looking forward to it too. We were going to bring our comp bot, but that’s running a little bit behind schedule at the moment.

Just curious, do you guys have the full field, airships included?

Currently we have 1 full boiler, 1 high efficiency goal, 1 airship with lifts but no gear tables or davits, 1 skeleton airship (the shape of the airship but no features), the team climbing rope, and 3 hoppers. We will build more time allowing. Also this went out in an email but if you are attending the scrimmage do not bring fuel, feel free to bring gears but no fuel. We have more than enough for everyone and we don’t want to keep track of whose is whose.

Sounds good! If you need us to bring any field elements we can probably manage it (I have a small pickup truck), we’ll probably end up brining our gear.

It will be nice to go somewhere where there’s actually a decent amount of fuel. We only have 12 ;). Thanks, James.

Such an odd use for them.

Check the bumper rules - those tapers aren’t going to pass inspection.

Is there any particular reason? We’ve read the rules and can’t find anything wrong with them. We’ve got the 8 inches on either side, and those 8 inches are covered by completely full pool noodles, it’s only after we’ve gone past the 8 that we’ve angled them to center the fuel.

I thought about this early on in the build season, if the bumper is not to spec I believe that it would be considered a robot part/component rather than part of the bumper assembly meaning that you wouldn’t actually be able to have it starting outside the frame perimeter etc.

See this thread regarding bumper tapering:

Especially:

This is how I interpret the rules as well.

+1.

Thanks for the suggestions and comments, everybody. I will bring it up at tonight’s meeting.

R29c and Figure 8-5. For those last 2" or so, the cross section doesn’t look like Figure 8-5. No one has put this to Q&A this year that I was able to find, but IIRC it was asked last year and that rule and picture haven’t changed much if at all. And OBTW, the requirement this year is only 6". (8" is OK, but not required.)

If you want that effect, you will have to have a piece that starts within the frame perimeter and drops down or pushes out to form the funnel.

Edit: Q58comes close to this topic, though it regards removing of part of the noodle from the inside rather than the outside.
