This is BV CAPS Metal Mustang Robotics’ robot, Pegasus, at the end of her season. It was a long battle of attrition, and we made the best of it. Thank you to Team 1939, the Kuh Nig Its, and 16, the Bomb Squad, for extending an invitation to join the quest at Razorback.
That’s some serious air storage.
This quite possibly sets the record for most air storage tanks on a FIRST robot.
I’m pretty sure at best it is a tie. 4334 had at least 12 in Seattle this year
Well, glad to know we finally tied with a Canadian team on something!
Yes, there are 12 Clippard 41 CuI tanks on the back structure. The reasoning behind such a massive air volume was because, when originally being designed, we were going to be a 30 point climb and spit robot using pneumatics. Unfortunately, that plan failed in one heck of an epic manner. The very first time we went to climb, 2 days before ship, the robot nearly tore itself apart. So, we sadly had to abandon the 30 point climb, put on a 10pt contingency, and spent a while trying to squeeze every inch we could get out of our shooter to do some decent shooting.
Come Arkansas, and the discovery that our shooter is mediocre at best, we switched to a full defensive strategy to take advantage of our height. That’s why the pool noodles were added to the sides and top. Widen and make the bot taller.
There was a team at Buckeye with either 22 or 24 air tanks
Holy hot compressor! We took nearly 7 minutes to fill up, and had to use copper tubing off the compressor to not burst tubing! What volume were the tanks? 24 Clippard plastic tanks off of FIRST choice would be nearly 4 and a half gallons of compressed air!
Huh? please explain.
Jeff, we used copper flare tube off the compressor, as the heat from running the small, new compressor would cause the “normal” plastic tubing to burst.
Kinsuk from 2016 snapped this picture of some 4XXX number team from Buckeye that had 22 tanks.

There’s no kill like overkill…
That’s 4269! We were on their alliance in elims, they were the 7 alliance captain. Very consistent 30-point climber.
