Here, we have our front lift mechanism picking up a recycling container with the gripper assembly, preparing to stack. You may notice there is some checkerboard pattern on our robot, but its a good thing. We have offered the Guild (High School Art Club) to decorate our robot this year! As far as I know, they will finish decorating by the end of this week, and we should get every sensor, programming, and autonomous done by the end of build season!
Last year a community member asked us to laser cut some food grade rubber into stamps that could be used to make cheese molds…We got two types of laserable rubber and are using the leftovers for our gripper. It is FDA approved Buna-rubber…I think we got it from Mcmastercarr…Obviously we will have to look it up for our BOM later this week…
We have two sheets attached to the insides of the gripper with rivets and contact cement. We are currently in the process of mounting pressure sensors on the pads so that we know how hard we are gripping things. We plan to use this to stop the Dart actuator when we have adequate pressure without crushing the things we are trying to pick up.
I will try to get more detailed pictures posted tomorrow.
