It weighs 17.4 Lbs with the wheel cut outs, but when we get done it will weigh 14 Lbs.

Do you have any info on this polishing technique that a lot of teams use on their aluminum? I’d like to try it on our robot.
We just used a grinder with a scuff pad and went over the top with it, it took about 5 mins to do, and we were already rounding the corners and smoothing the edges.
Another thing you can do to get a similar look is to use one of those wire brushes that fits in a drill. The bad thing about that is it hurts when the wire bristles fly out of it.
wow thats a beefy plate. may i ask why so beefy? thats the weight of two tyrannies and support brackets for our bot.
It can’t be that bad. Just ONE of our trannies weighs that much. :ahh: (but with motor(s) of course.)
Looks like the robot is going to be similar to the team 19 robot of 2002. And with that thickness of plate, I would be willing to bet on it.
Are you planning on starting the match on your side, and falling down to have a really wide or long robot?

No, we are starting flat, the thickness of the plate is 3/16ths aluminum, why so thick? Good question I guess we are building a tank. But on the good side this plate doesn’t need cross braces and our arm has something solid to mount to. Additionally we can take out as much weight as we need in an hour.
That paint does look good I am going to have to ask if we can do that. That looks awesome
pretty shpiffy too bad we used 80/20 for all of our frame.
another method to polish aluminum like that (if you have a mill) is to use a chuck with an abrasive rubber tip (it has a specific name i think, i just cant remember it at the moment)
