Here is day one of construction of the extruded fiberglass frame for team 842. We plan on duel rear traction wheels from IFI and AM trick wheels, with black acetal . All wheel tank drive
Nice job guys. I love that extruded fiberglas you use. I was impressed in Atlanta when you beat the heck out of it on the concrete floor. Out of curiosity how did you get your IFI and AM parts so fast after kickoff? I mean today is only Monday! You must have a MUCH faster UPS or FEDEX man than we do! Same day service! We are just now figuring out what we want to use and putting in orders tonight and tomorrow in hopes that we will start receiving presents by the big brown truck before this weekend!
how much does that weigh?
looks nice but Owwww… That’s going to hurt.
Unless you polish it, you are going to have microscopic fibers cutting your hands all season.
Looks like your past designs, but I see it’s longer than it was in the last two years. Adding some stability for a large arm, perhaps?
Good to see a team putting some fiber in their robot’s diet. I believe they are correctly referred to as pulltrusions. You probably would not want to use extruded fiberglass in a frame
I’ve always been interested in these frames.
One question, though: Why choose the AM Trick Wheel over some of their more recent designs?
We use the stuff too. It works great! There are no problems after it has been cut. The fiberglass dust gets all over the place when cutting, but that is fixed by having a shop-vac next to the cutting wheel.
The fiberglass is VERY strong. We went through 2 regionals and nationals without a problem (using no bumpers).
It is pretty heavy. The nice thing though, is you can swiss cheese like crazy but still have incredible strength.
