Lexan shreds, I presume?
I realized right after I posted… that’s not… no… hot glue? cringes Guess how this programmer learned we don’t use that on motor shafts?
looks almost like silly string to me, but maybe they tried to lube it or something???
O.o Thanks programmers, you just ruined any credibility the rest of us code monkeys had as far as knowing anything about putting stuff together
The important question is, did it work for the time you needed it?
(Safety lectures aside - ::ouch:: - I think that’s a good effort for a fix in a pinch!)
That looks pretty far off the shaft and cantilevered… hope nothing got bent!
H, that’s odd, it posted the photo but not the dsecription. Oh well…
The story is that this is on a robot that I took home with me to do some-last minute programming. When it got to my house, I discovered that the mechanical and d electrical teams had not done any testing at all:rolleyes:  , and the robot had several malfunctions, including this sprocket that was not properly fastened onto the gearbox thingy. However, the problem was, being at my house and not our shop,I lacked the proper tool to attach it. So this is our interim solution:hot glue.
That is a ingenious solution (being at a house). Testing is very key in robotics, stuff tends to LOOK right. Very cool solution.

their pictures! <grin> */

If it didn’t work for the entirety, Plan C would be to soon get the right tool, a Hex Set in this case right? Then you can accumulate tools one by one as you progress through college (conservatively in college of course since you’ll be broke :ahh: ). Eventually you’ll have enough tools to build or fix your own <whatever>. Just last night while fixing the central air conditioning system in my townhome I used a hacksaw I bought in 1998 (9th grade) and a screwdriver set I got at a garage sale ($2 for the whole set!) at the start of my college senior design project.
I think that his mechanical team should’ve sent a drive ready bot home with their programmer. How many other team positions work “on the bot” when they’re not at meetings?
Nathan, this makes me sad, but at least our mechanical team is not responsible for the ghetto fix this time. Did you get it working well enough to program, and did you get to give it to William to do a proper fix? Hope the summer is goin well for you guys back in Davis.
nice debugging:D
(Emphasis mine)
Stop getting so technical on this forum, we’re just amateurs here!
…seems to me that nathanww still applied a “soft” ware to fix a hardware problem
on a slight tangent, i like how we were allowed tape this year. that would have been my solution to that problem.
