pic: Uppercut gets academic

This year, I received a grant from Preston Residential College to help develop 1618’s drive system. (I was hearing the horror stories about the 2006 robot’s refusal to turn, so something had to be done.)

The one real requirement of the grant was that I had to present at Discovery Day, the University’s undergraduate research exhibition. When I had to print the poster, I decided to be a little…creative in my presentation. (The marketing major in me was screaming for differentiation, as if bringing the robot wasn’t enough.)

While I didn’t receive any awards or prizes, the chance to talk up FIRST and 1618 was totally worth the sleep deprivation and running around.

(By the way, Uppercut is now the second robot to be pictured in Preston’s main office. 1293’s 2005 robot, Ockham, was the other one–the pictures are on CD somewhere.)
