This is a sensor wheel we build really quick tonight. Just a common caster body. Just had to drill one large hole through for the wire and a small hole for the bolt to hold the encoder, & cut the wheel shaft off. As luck would have it the vex spacers press fit perfectly into the axle holes in the caster body. Not quite as pretty as the one 148 posted early in the season but it would work.
This won’t be what we’re using, final design may include a vex swerve…
We considered using a caster, but decided that after a series of sharp turns, or backwards and forwards movements, the wire could get wrapped around the caster and possibly pull out. Do you guys have a method to avoid this?
Yeah we had an idea, as you can see the wire passes through the caster bearing’s center, then the idea would have been to use a Slip ring like the ones discussed here, but for cost and time we were going to try a Phone cord untangler but this design was mothballed before we could try it.
