For my final project for my first semester of my foundation year of art school (VCU!) I did a silhouette projection riffed off of the artist Kara Walker. With Dean Kamen as my inspiration, I made a scene using FIRST Headquarters (where I worked for a year) and of course Dean on a segway, surrounded by tools. In the background is actually the FIRST logo cut out of thin plywood and painted white with just the grey accent shadows.
The glass tower and staircase was the toughest thing to do. I also laugh seeing the hammer going at Dean. Whoops!
The best part was when I was creating this piece, and actually all the other pieces in my “Space Research” class, I always used at least one or more skills that I learned from FIRST
