This is a prototype to pick up both the hatches and the cargo. I am looking for ANY and ALL criticisms you may have. I want to make this the best possible design it could be (for this design). If you have any solutions to the problems you come up with i’d love to hear those to!
Is this to scale? Maybe it’ll be capable of doing it, but I’d have concerns that the cargo grabbing will suffer mightily compared to a simple roller intake. Aiming stuff like this from 30 feet away is an exercise in frustration and futility.
It is to scale, we’ve tested picking up the balls from different angles and speeds. We could that if the device is perallel to the ground it doesn’t pick up the ball, but it is able to pick up the ball well from different angles
it viable our team came up with a similar design similar (multipurpose/multiangle) of course the need to line up is a potential downside possibly outweighed by the versitile simpliy of a single meachanism for the gamepieces. Vision will be more critical.
We have another integrated design using roller intake for faster aquisition , of course thats better for the driver and can also be versitile apart from floor pickups. Both designs have their plus and minus aspects. We’ll prototype both tomorrow.
ive found that lathe jaws could accomplish the same thing in a different method.
maybe also try something like these ^
we havent finished our prototyping for these yet but we see the biggest problem at the moment being, how do we make it.
You might consider a mechanism like this:
When you turn the hex shaft (relative to the round plates) the arms go in/out. Scaled up, would probably pick up a ball at many different angles.
How do you plan on placement with this in regards to hatch panels? It could cause trouble if you are using this mechanism alone if it doesn’t actuate inwards.
@Darre, I presume your asking about the oil filter wrench. You could also use it from inside the hole, where the feeder station and goals all have access space.
@hpeyerl we looked at something similar to that but we realized that the cargo could all have slightly different PSI’s, because there is no set PSI for the cargo. This would make each cargo have a different diameter. We would have to make a mechanism that would be sensitive to different PSI’s and diameters.
That mechanism can handle cargo of all sorts of diameters which is why I mentioned it.
I should be clear; my team is doing something else.

But I think with a bit of imagination you could put a hook or something on the pegs to pick up a hatch. But the subject was ‘picking up cargo’ and that’s what I was addressing.
@GeeTwo I was referring to the original mechanism posted in the thread.
And yes potentially, I was just wondering if this were to be on a robot if there was a plan for release or anything.
