Pittsburgh Practice Field

We just finished building a practice field in Pittsburgh, hosted by The Ellis School and The Girls of Steel (3504). It is open to any team who wants to make the trip on Tuesdays from 6pm-8:30pm and Saturdays from 11am-3pm. Contact me via PM for details.

Did you get the bridges to balance?

One of the three bridges is currently balanced to spec, which was accomplished by using about 80 pounds of paving stones carefully attached to the underside. The other two are next on the to do list.

What was the distance from the center that you mounted the weights?

They are distributed evenly along the centerline of the bridge. I will take some photos and post here tomorrow.

Some photos are attached. I had the details wrong above, here is a more accurate description: There are 9 12"x12"x2" concrete paving stones attached to the underside of the bridge, for a total of about 180 pounds of extra ballast. Five of the blocks are distributed along the centerline of the bridge, the other four on in a line off to the side. They are mounted in 2"x4" framing so that they can be easily reconfigured later if necessary (e.g., if/when we cover the surface with polycarbonate).

Just in case anyone who lives within striking distance of Pittsburgh has missed the myriad of local announcements that have gone out, we will be hosting some scrimmage matches at the Ellis Armory practice field tomorrow (Sat. Feb. 18) 11am-3pm. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come join the fun. We will have a few extra robots there, so even if yours is not working your drivers can get some practice in a game like situation. PM me if you are interested in details.
