Planned Maintenance: Server Upgrade

FYI

At [STRIKE]22:00[/STRIKE]23:00 CST tonight, the server is getting some more RAM added and a kernel upgrade. This should speed up the site and stop it from crashing and sending me 1500 emails every 2 minutes.

The site shouldn’t be down for more than an hour while they upgrade us, I would hope.

Thank you Brandon. I have seen plenty of page load errors and slow page loads.

Thanks Brandon,

This is a good time to repeat this request…

This is a great community we have here. I don’t believe that FIRST would be as successful as it is without Chief Delphi. This is where we all hang out. We learn here, we share here. We grow here. Without this community, we would all be on our own. Belonging to this community makes all of us stronger.

So head on over to the link below and do you part to keep ChiefDelphi alive and running

[edit]Just re-upped for two years for $15.

By the way, I’m just curious, who is your host?

Thanks Brandon, I wondered what was up.

PS Mike - I think the big letters severly cramp the bandwidth.

From Brandon’s original post, it sounds like they are running their own server.

Thank you Brandon for all you do for the Community of FIRST! The BEST Webmaster ever!

I’d say this guy’s a bit biased…but at the same time, he’s totally right.

Folks in Greenville, can tomorrow be Give Brandon a High-Five Day?

Looks like someone censored his own father’s post?

We have a dedicated server through SoftLayer (formerly The Planet).

Brandon and crew does the FIRST community a tremendous service. As the program has grown, the capabilities have struggled to keep pace.

Not all of what is required to maintain CD is without cost.

Please show your appreciation and DONATE to CD!

Keep the voice of FIRST strong!!

Upgrade complete … hopefully this will keep things afloat for a while.

ONE server? what would it take to add more? Looks to me like traffic has exceeded what it can handle several times so far this season. Or is it a bandwidth problem? or both?

I would look into adding redundancy into the mix, though I also don’t know what finances are, which could limit the expansion options. Even a simple CDN would go a long way. The RAM should be sufficient, though, if it’s just a simple issue of running out of memory.

I’m sure Brandon knows what he’s doing. If he needs help, I trust he’ll let us know.

I’m sure he does…if we can help in any way, please let us know! might be someone has some surplus equipment that could fix some issues?
