Is there a mistake in the game manual. Looking at the tables above the loser of match 11 is 4th place, but they go match 13. So if they also lose in match 13 would they be third place or fourth place?
I’m guessing they wrote the table before switching around the match numbers. In the blog post from December 8th, they mentioned that from the original proposal they swapped Matchs 3/4 and Matches 11/12.
The robot that loses Match 12 (as pictured) should be in 4th place.
Good catch, that appears to be a mistake carried over from the old format.
On an unrelated note regarding playoff district points. I think it is interesting to note that it seems fractional district points are now possible.
Say Alliance 8 has the following teams: 1001, 1002, and 1003.
1001, 1002, and 1003 lose Match 1
1001, 1002, and 1003 win Match 5
Before Match 8 they call in 1004 as a backup for 1003
1001, 1002, and 1004 win Match 8
1001, 1002, and 1004 lose Match 12 to exit at 4th place.
The alliance receives 7 advancement points. 1001 and 1002 will reach get all 7 since they played in all winning matches. 1003 and 1004 will each get 7/2=3.5 district points since they each played in 1 out of 2 winning matches.
Of course, these values could still end up being rounded, but there is no explicit acknowledgment of rounding in 11.8.1.3. Seems especially strange not to round considering the qualification rank points are already rounded.
It’s even worse for the 3rd place alliance, since teams might have played in 1/3 or 2/3 of their alliance’s matches. It has to be rounded off to something.
