Please help! Java update today!

Hi everyone! We could use some help if anyone can help us out! We were prompted this morning to do a Java update. Windows asked if we wanted to install a new version of Java, and we clicked yes, and installed it. However, now we cannot open Eclipse! We got an error message that says the following:

A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK) must be available in order to run Eclipse. No Java virtual machine was found after searching the following locations:
C:/ProgramFiles/Java/jre1.8.0_101/bin

The version that was installed was Java 8 Update 121 (64-bit). The original one that we installed back in September was Java SE Development Kit 8 Update 101.

So, is it just looking for it in the wrong place now? Any advice on what to do? Many thanks!

Looks like the update set JAVA_HOME to the new JRE. You just need to change it to point at the JDK install location. See: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2619584/how-to-set-java-home-on-windows-7

Thank you for your reply! We did try fixing that, but couldn’t figure it out. We finally just reinstalled Eclipse, and that worked. I don’t know why it did that though!
