For those of you living in areas where elections will take place tomorrow, id like to urge you all to use one of our most important rights, the right to choose our leaders, November 7th will determine the fate of congress as well as many other positions within local/ statewide, and nationwide governments. Regardless of your political views, Let your voice be heard.
So Please, If you have the ability to vote, please do so…
(I beg people reading this thread to refrain from starting political discussions on these forums, lets keep Chiefdelphi a cheerful and happy place where no one feels left out )
The funny thing about voting for the next presidential election is that I will be two days too young to vote for it! Oh well, that is what voting for next year will be for i guess.
[begin $.02] Yeah, I’d vote (or my parents would), but we can’t, seeing as we’re not citizens, but we have Green cards and can live here as long as we want (legally). I think it’s stupid, in my opinion. [/end $.02]
I second the move to vote when possible. The U.S. preaches democracy, but when it comes to voting, we’re not that great an example.
I wish I could vote, but being underage and all, I can’t. However, my friend’s mother is running for village trustee where I live, so I’m kind of interested in finding out how things go.
What is dumb? That non citizens (even with Green cards) can’t vote? This is just my own $0.02 but does the country that you came from allow non citizens to vote? But even if they could the agendas of people running for offices, and those voting would all change. All of a sudden their is a new “group” to try and please. Now this is definitely not meant to offend anybody and i am in no way against the idea of Green cards, immigration. etc… All i am trying to say is that there are some rights reserved for citizens only, even though visitors still have some…
I’m leaving now to go vote, Mr. Surampudi.
And I’m also going to vote for a super size fries, a cheeseburger all the way, and a large diet coke. (Voting makes me hungry…)
There are plenty of really good reasons why only citizens retain the right to vote, most having to do with protecting a democracy from an orchestrated attempt at overthrow.
I am proud to have voted yesterday.
I am also proud to say that I actually broke the electronic voting machine. Talk about something I will never forget… it ate my card and froze. It was kinda exciting. They reset it and I had to vote on another machine.
I was very discouraged during my first period class when my teacher asked who voted and I was the only one to raise my hand. Don’t let this happen at your schools! Bring friends with!
I wish I could of voted, but I’m to young . I’ll also be to young again next year, by about a week. I’m defiantly going to try to vote when I’m 19. Yay to all who voted.

Lesson Learned: Don’t let Kelli touch electronics[/quote]
Talk about ‘fair’ election…you never know whats going on behind the scenes; computer malfunction, programming errors, miscounts, etc etc
PAPER BALLET all the way!!
But oh well… Elections are over. Democrats are taking over the house. VA race was a pretty tough. Did you guys hear about the marriage amendment? Apparently in VA, marriage amendment passed (stating that marriage is only between man and woman). So what now…Republican White House and Democratic Congress… :ahh: At the same time Rumsfield resigns…any particular reason ?_? Yesterday was pretty much one shocking news after another. (Not to mention situation with Brittany Spears )
Imad
ps I don’t want this to be a political battle ground now
Actually the solution is quite simple: leave a paper trail. After a person votes, print off a receipt with a scannable bar code and a listing of their votes.
Not a bad idea. But whats with the privacy issue? It would be better if they don’t do it with persons name and information on it. Just a receipt stating who is voted for would be good enough.
Something similar happening in VA right now. Votes are being recounted; I’m hoping it doesn’t make its way to the court…
The Perfect Blue Storm swept through Rhode Island, and Democrats took everything except for governor (which isn’t so bad; he was a decent governor and we needed that after many a corruption scandal). I myself voted the Democrat ticket (for the record, I’m independent). We now have our first female Lt. Governor (and here is where I give a shout-out to our neighbors up north, Massachusetts, for electing their first African-American governor). Also, our constitutional amendment to let the Narragansett tribe build a casino (as far as I know, we’re the only state that requires a constitutional amendment to let a Native American tribe build a casino even on their own land) was rejected (it was a very terrible deal, and the Narragansetts would’ve gotten only 5% of the profits anyway). Other than that, the ballot was prettymuch bonds for different projects (we might actually get better highway roads now :D).
I have to say: I hate politcs, but I love election season.
I’ll say that I didn’t vote. My reason? I didn’t know enough about the candidates. I think everyone has the right the vote and you should use that vote if you really know what you’re voting for. At the moment, I don’t care about politics at all. Way too many other things going on - so here’s to those who did voted yesterday, and to those who didn’t vote blindly.
It does, it prints out a long reciept that is stored on the roll with all of your info on it in case their is a recount. It is actually kinda cool. There is both an electronic copy and a hard copy.
