Is it possible to get the pneumatics to extend to a certain amount from each click of a joystick? Our team wants to have 4 settings for the pneumatics, obviously 2 are the fully contracted and fully extended modes, but the other 2 are in the middle, is it possible to do this? and if so how?
I know it can be done, though I canât remember how right now. I would suggest searching past threads (itâs come up before), but if I find something, Iâll let you know. It is possible, though.
it definetly is possible, i dont know how accurate it is⌠but our team has done it in the past.
it basically consists of attaching another solenoid to the exausts of the one controlling the piston you want released. you energize the primary one to either bring the piston in or out, then momentarrily tigger the one attached to the exaust untill you find your desired length.
as for the actual indexing⌠the only suggestion i can think of is put a pot on whatever your moving with the thing and get a reading off of that, or mark the actual arm (like this | | | )of the piston and use an optical sensor to record the ammount of lines that have passed. that would give you a somewhat accurate readingâŚ

how would you program the valves to do what they need to do, and also if you are using the 2 valves on the one cylinder then would you use one or 2 of the spikes?
Routing the exhaust of the double solenoid through the single solenoid works well. Just put a stop on one of the single solenoid outputs and leave the other open. When the solenoid go to open air the cyclinders will move, but will stop when you switch to the stopped one. I donât know about stopping at intervals yet because we were looking into it as for more control of the cyclinders.
If you are using this to both launch and stack boxes (extend halfway to stack, extend fully to launch) you could take a different approach to stacking. The way we are planning to do this is to have a screw-jack under the arm we"re launching the boxes with, so we can lift the arms slowly and thus either stack boxes or run around with a box before launching it. We are then going to use a piston to launch it, but we won"t need to have the piston have two actuated positions.
well, we arent going to launch the boxes but grab them using the cylinder to close on them but since it could be grabbing the 24 inch side or the 17 inch side, we need it to be able to stop at two positions.
Any more info on this would be great, especially on programming the stoppping settings. and any info for the wiring of the valves for this setup.
If your cylinder is small enough, you could just have it close all the way, and the box will keep it from closing all the way on the 24 inch side.
See thread âCan you stop a pneumatic pump at half shaftâ I posted a solution there.
Hope it helps
Good luck !
