My team has found a single acting solenoid from Automation Direct(Nitra AVS-31) they want to use on the robot. Has anyone used anything like this? The concern is the wiring that it comes with has 3 wires (one positive, one negative and one ground).
My question is how do we wire that when the PCM only has a place for positive and negative. Also, the positive is black and does not have a white stripe. R61 states that “wires that are originally attached to legal devices are considered part of the device and by default legal. Such wires are exempt from R61.”
You Don’t need the ground wire, just connect the two solenoid terminals and you will be fine.
You say it has wires? Those valves don’t come with wires. Did you buy the modular cable that plug into it?
Yes we did. Thank you for your help.
You don’t have to use that modular cable - it’s a LOT of extra bulk and weight, but it is convenient.
I usually remove the black plastic header on the solenoid (both the cover and the thing under it) and connect directly to the spade lugs.
Or just remove the plastic cover and take advantage of the screw terminal there.
Lots of options, just pick the one that works best for you.
