One of my students mentioned an update, but didn’t have any info on what the update was about. I looked quickly this morning and all I could seem to find was something about a plug.
Anyone have any info about this? Seems as though we are required to put a plug in the system as well as a ball valve.
The quarter-turn manual valve is named vent plug in the rules; no change there.
The change is in the interpretation of the requirements of the regulator. The first I saw of it was here. The bottom line is that the manufacturer’s top recommended output pressure for the regulator must not exceed 60psi. Both of the regulators recommended in the rules are OK, but some other regulators which teams have used in the past are not.
Edit: Q910was answered this morning, overriding the instructions given to inspectors referenced at the link above.
And the “vent plug” or “plug valve” **is **the item at the lower left of the picture. The two items at the bottom of the middle column are plugs, but not vent plugs or plug valves.
Actually Q&A has just ruled that the adjustable regulator need to be set at 60 psi max. The range may be higher.
Q. Is the intent of R77I to limit teams to only using Pressure regulators with a published operating range of less than 60 PSI, or is this meant to allow regulators with an operating range above 60 PSI provided they are adjusted such that the working pressure is at or below 60PSI?

A. The meaning of R77-I was unclear, sorry about that. It will be revised in Team Update 14 to allow pressure regulators with the outlet pressure adjusted to 60 psi or less. Regulators with an operating range above 60 psi will be allowed provided they are adjusted to no more than 60 psi. /quote
That is design guidance. They publish it ever year. It is not part of the rules so when in conflict the published rules govern.
The part that threw me off was the mention of the plug. The way it is written makes it seem as though we must use the plug.
The only thing I could think was did they mean to say you have to use the 1/4 turn ball valve? And then use the wrong picture.

B. Pneumatic pressure vent plug valves functionally equivalent to those provided in the KOP,
Parker valves PV609-2 or MV709-2 are recommended.
Is the controlling rule. Pretty much any quarter turn valve is functionally equivalent. We use ones from Automation Direct because they are more convenient than finding the parker one. (I know Andymark has them, but AD is next day for me.)
