Point cutoff for New England district championship

I was curious if anyone has a good estimate to a point cut off to make it to NE District Champs. We have never even been close to making it before so it has never really been on our radar before. ( how many total teams go?)

Our second district event will be at Pine Tree, therefore we would only have about 2 days to try to plan for championships after Hartford finishes on 4/2.

We had 32 points at the end of our first district.

Last year it was around 56 and then a bunch (10?) declined - so more spots -
You are in a good position, do the same and good! - though I see you are going to Pine tree - those Mainers can be tough!

Hope to see you at NEDCMPs

I think your team is right on the bubble. I’m projection 60 points to make the New England district championship this year.

I’m calculating this the same way I’ve made a guess for the PNW district the past few years. See more details here: https://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=156957

Here’s my guess for all the teams in the New England district:

Key:

in=will have enough points to make it in
out=won't make it
~in=probably going to have enough points
~out=probably won't have enough points
bubble=could easily go either way

Best-case points to make it to district cmp: 40
Worst-case points to make it to district cmp: 106
Best estimate: 60

Thanks guys, we have our fingers crossed.

Love how you have every team listed. (I looked through your other linked threads as well.)

I seem to remember the cutoffs for the past 3 years in New England being closer to 65-67 district points.

after declines, looks like it was ~59

http://frc-districtrankings.firstinspires.org/2016/NE

I can speak from experience. Three years in a row we have been a “bubble team” Last year we got in at 59 after declines. We are currently at 57 and based upon the increase in number of teams, the same number of events and the smaller than normal attendance(31) at Greater Boston that we attended, I am estimating a 2 point decline in the bubble number which should just barely get us in. 65-66 is always a safe number with 70 being our goal.

If we didn’t have to replay match 3, three times in quarters and finally lose we would have made it to champs with 67 points from the 10 elimination points.

If anyone is attending the Hartford District Event, on Sunday April 2, 2017 at 10am in the Mentor Lounge, Regional Director Carol Scully will be holding an informational meeting for team mentors on advancing to DCMP and CMP. If you’re near the “bubble” and in the Hartford area it would be good to send someone to the meeting!

Looks like these teams were all below 60 last year:
4055 59
1699 59
246 58
1735 58
5563 56

These numbers look promising. Thanks for sharing the knowledge and experience.

It’s weird to actually have a possibility of attending a championship.
We have never attended one or even made it past quarterfinals at a district event

Even if your team doesn’t qualify to compete at a DCMP or CMP, I highly recommend that you sign up to volunteer at one! It’s fun to experience the “flip side” of FRC competitions!

Hey, as a member of 1289, I’m just wondering what are our odds of making it? There’s 64 teams invited and we are 38th at the moment I assume we cant go below say 50, so how would we be out? I think the cutoff is gonna be lower this year. Seeing how the rankings are right now, but realisticly what are our chances?

You currently have 49 district points. Based off last year, where the cutoff was 56 after declines, it’s unlikely (though not completely out) that you will qualify for DCMPs.

I’m curious about what the predicted New England District Champs cutoff is now that week 4 events have passed, leaving only 2 NE events to play. We (4909) are at 65 district points after 2 events and I am hoping that this will be enough. Thanks for the insight!

According to past years, 65 will be “more likely than not” above the bubble. I would be making those plans of attending if I were you.

That could be somewhat disappointing if things tip toward “not”, but you are now 44th overall.

The next 20 teams below you that have another event to play in will all have to pass you to push you out. It could happen, but that would be just the worst kind of luck.

I’m expecting the cutoff will be between 60 and 64 points.

Unfortunately there are usually a number of teams that cannot commit to going to DCMP, so teams below the cutoff will be invited to fill out the 64 slots at NE DCMP… Teams should be deciding now if they would be able to attend NE DCMP if they have any chance of getting close to the cutoff.

FRC190 is going to decline their invitation to the NEDCMP. Adjust math accordingly, if you want.

An email blast went out to all teams (I think) earlier this week from Regional Director Steve Cremer. He encouraged teams to discuss if they can attend DCMP and make plans now. And to let them know NOW if you know your team is not going to attend. It saves them time next week if they don’t have to reach out to every team, knowing your team has already made up its mind not to attend.

You guys are defining this year’s bubble! Coz you are 64th! Crazy!

You’ll need to look at how many Chairman winners and Rookie all star winners are below you (not too many usually), and balance that with how many declines there are from above you.

I can’t believe how high the cutoff is this year! 65 points has been pretty safe in prior years. I guess that this really speaks to how good New England has been this year! With 190 declining (as mentioned above), if one more team declines, we will qualify (because only 2 Chairman’s teams did not qualify with points). We will see!
