It was interesting to note that several teams submitted a multi-team application to beta test the new controller. So I am curious as to how many did so and with how many partners.
After you complete the poll, I’d be interested to hear a few remarks on who initiated the joint submission and how you will work the logistics of one controller with multiple teams. A common worksite with all involved…
Several Indiana teams submitted “individual joint” proposals. We had talked about plans by email for a while, and then had face-to-face discussions at an Indiana FIRST meeting before deciding how to proceed. I think only three of the ten cooperating teams actually applied for the beta program, but we all agreed to mention the others and promise to work closely with all of them if selected to participate. While we proposed to pool resources, each team’s application was separate.
One team uses an online workflow tool for its own purposes, and offered to extend its use to handle the coordination of tasks among the group members.
We applied on behalf of the teams the Seattle/Tacoma region. FIRST is asking a lot of beta testers and we don’t feel that any single team – here or elsewhere – will likely be able to comprehensively test and document the system in such a short period of time. Together with other teams, we’re hoping to use our diversity to our advantage – teams with significant experience in atypical autonomous programming will spend a majority of the time with the control system on a number of platforms furnished by each of our teams, while teams with organizational resources will help document the findings and disseminate that information.
The number on our application was 9, but we expect that other Rochester teams will want to be involved. Much like we plan Ruckus, with the help of 6+ other teams in the area, it should be helpful to utilize the expertise of multiple teams in our area to help better test the system. Plus that also gives us more robots to choose from in terms of sensor and actuator implementations.
According to to Bill’s place on the FIRST site, there were 159 Beta Test applications. We’ve got 39 votes in this poll as of 08/24/08. I attempted to post on the FIRST forum this same questions as to how many multi-team applications but not matter what I did to my account settings, I could not post. Maybe one of you has the magic permissions on your account with FIRST and can post my question.
Thanks,
APS
I think they have changed some settings on the FIRST Forum. I was able to post on both of the comment threads last week, but now I do not have permission to either. If anyone reading this is from the FIRST Forums, can this be fixed?
Richard,
Thanks for letting me know that my account is not the only one having trouble. Did the Austin, Texas teams put in a joint proposal or did two or three separate apps go in for the Beta test?
Our team (2158) submitted an application, though I don’t know if we are even in the pile for selection since we are only a second year team, but I figured we would try anyways. I think LASA also submitted an application of their own (though I’m not positive). If we happen to be selected, we will be holding several weekend-long workshops on getting to know the controller, probably in Austin, Houston, and possibly San Antonio (or the San Antonio teams could come to Austin).
19 votes for 2 or more teams on an application but only three posters who share how they put together a shared application. I’m interested to learn more from the rest of you:)
What are these teams beta testing? I’d like to give it a try if i could join a team who gets the system.:]
Applications were being accepted until August 15th to beta test the new FRC 2009 control system.
C.D. posting of FIRST announcement
I’m sorry if this is off topic :o but when are they releasing the new systems to the teams? I thought i read in October or November.
we will know who is selected by September 2nd, and they will be shipped by September 15th
Really? Sweet thanks!
I think he meant when all the teams get their controllers.
As of now we kow that the beta testing controllers(rumored that there are 10-20 of them) will be shipped starting spetember 15th
As far as all the 2009 controllers go, FIRST has expressed that they would like to provide them tthe teasm as soon as possible but no release date has been announce yet, so we dont know
