My team is having an ongoing debate about how fast elevators should ascend, so I decided to collect some data regarding it. If your team built an elevator, how fast does it extend to maximum height?
This is a good way to collect data for your lift speed discussion with your teammates. Just be aware of the “Chief Delphi Bias”: more competitive teams tend to be overrepresented on Chief Delphi. This poll illustrates it quite well. Though that doesn’t necessarily make your poll any less valid.
we did not build an elevator, but our arm ascends in between 1 and 3 seconds.
Fast is good.
Not an elevator, but the cube flying through the air ascends pretty darn quickly. Of course it also has to descend.
You want the elevator to ascend fast enough that it wont limit your cycle times. For example, the ideal elevator (assuming you’re doing scale) should be able to go from intake height to scale height in the time it takes you to drive from wherever you’re getting cubes to the scale. One of my least favorite things to see in matches is great driving around defense ultimately stuck waiting on their manipulator to reach a setpoint.
