Poll: OS in use

I was curious as to what all the other FIRST competitors use on their computers; I myself use Linux (Ubuntu 7.10), and see little to no reason to continue using Windows… but it’s a personal choice.

On my primary computer I have XP but hopefully as soon as the season ends I’ll have time to fiddle with Ubuntu which I’m about to install in the next few days on an older computer I have laying around…Speaking of Ubunto, does anybody know how hard it is to learn and get familiar with?

What is Ubunto?

I think he meant ubuntu. It’s not hard to learn at all, its a user-friendly distro.

On my computer I run debian 3.1 etch and on my server I run CentOS 5.0. Lately I’ve been running windows because of several games I play and for the fact that programming for windows is hard in linux.

I use both XP and Vista on my laptop, and XP on my home server.

Apparently serial communications on Vista are crippled and don’t work very well. While programming our robot I would encounter OS freezes and the infamous BSOD. So I installed XP for the remaining 2 weeks of build season. Now I’m dual booting XP and Vista because I really do like Vista, and XP is slow on my laptop for some reason… yes, even slower than Vista.

im also duel booting vista & xp on my laptop. vista doesnt like most of my games so i use xp for that. im booted into vista now since that is where i have most of my stuff installed cause vista came preloaded when i got my laptop.

I run Mac OS X. I’m a Mac evangelist, but I can work with XP just fine. (And Vista, if I must.)

I’m using Vista at home.

Im running Mac OS X 10.5 on my laptop. Also running xp on desktop, but since got the Mac I found no need to get on the xp comp other than gaming and some slight programming…I am planning on getting a server going with one of the old comps with ubuntu server, we’ll see how that goes.

PS. I did boot camp xp on my Mac for portable gaming and coding, booted it up like a total of four times so took it off for the lack of needs(yes it did run fast…very fast).

I duel boot Vista and Ubuntu (7.10) on my laptop, and OS X 10.4 on my mac desktop. Hopefully I will have the time soon to make a full transition to linux.

10.5.2 on my Mac, PC doesn’t get used at all, but it runs XP.

Dual boot Kubuntu (Ubuntu with KDE) and XP

At home, I dual boot Ubuntu and XP on my laptop (don’t use Ubuntu much though because I am too lazy to get the wireless working), but I sometimes use a really old computer that runs DOS 5 and has some pretty cool old games. At work, I usually use a Mac, but on occasion, I use a Linux box (don’t remember what distro).

I’m Running Tiger, and I love it. Macs are awesome, they never crash

I have to bite, the first computer virus ever infected Macs.:yikes:

No, that’s not correct.

There were viruses in the 1970s that struck the Univac computer systems, like the ANIMAL virus.

The Macintosh computer was unveiled in 1984.

I stand corrected. BTW what the hec is a
Univac system.

They were a company that built mainframe computers starting in the 1950s.
