Pollsters…Please do not be offended by the nature of my post.

Having just watch a ‘60 minutes’ report about the NSA listening to all of my phone calls, I have a question.

I answer a poll question about my robot’s abilities… To answer that question I must put in my username and password… My password and username is linked to my team number… Does this build a database for the pollsters to use at the competitions?

Just a question

The purpose of the password system on chiefdelphi.com is an attempt to prevent what happened on the chat server the Rambots are running. Improper language, and poor sportsmanship (trash talking ) will not be tolerated and cannot be allowed.

We experienced the same problem three years ago. That is why we went to the password file style entry. This system does not stop problems but is an attempt at preventive maintenance. We can link a message to the sender and take appropriate action if warranted.

All password files are encoded such that we cannot know who voted for what. Only that you have voted.

This is why when you forget your password Brandon ( my son ) cannot tell you what it was. You only can make a new one. He can get a report of encoded passwords that are not being used in a specified length of time and delete them.

Besides all of us know what we think our robot will do and what it actually does are sometimes two different things. The best method of scouting is to watch the robot in action.

You do not have to be paranoid here. Now your phone thats a different story.

I already knew the answer for your website, that’s why I posted it on the rumor mill.

I do remember you having to issue me a new password. Heck, my email provider is not that secure.

We won’t talk about why the Space Shuttle was mapping the Earth the last week of the robot building season. We at KSC know that was purely a coincedence…

Wait a minute… My phone is making a weird noise…

Yes it is my car…

But I have the strangest feeling there are Delphi motors in it.

Listening.

Waiting for me to mumble something about our robot strategy. =O

We take a different approach. All conversations are logged. No passwords, no private information. You can remain anonymous as you want, but keep it appropriate.

The good thing is everything if LOGGED. You’re IP address, the time you logged on, the length of time you stay, and what you said exactly in the duration of your stay.

Both services are different. We took the password concept into account, but figured it would not be as fun as being able to change your identity once in a while. We believed that anonymity has its bonuses and its price. And regulating it may solve the problem. (for that matter allowing the software to be smart enough to filter bad words…a feature chatters have begun to notice as they chat.)

All is well.
