The poll seems to “prove” that most people like the change, I think it’s the fact that this major change was completely unexpected since there was no indication the game could change in this years manual. Even a ranking point criteria change wasn’t an advertised possibility.

The first question needs more nuance. I like the change itself but wish at least the possibility had been announced earlier. My order of preference would be:

  1. The double game piece change, announced 3 weeks ago.

  2. No double game piece change.

  3. The double game piece change, announced when it was.

I didn’t create the poll to prove anything. I put it out to gauge feelings on the supercharge changes.

If someone has a process concern, they can put out another thread. But forewarning, it will be an echo chamber consisting of the ~15%. For most people, the only time they remotely care about process violations is on failed or unwanted changes.

Yeah, needs an option for I like it, but they should have said it was a possibility at the very start of the season.

From what I can tell, everyone was expecting regular double full grids at worlds if nothing was done, which nobody wanted because that’d mean matches would be decided on penalties. I’m not surprised people like this change because it’s a pretty unobtrusive way of solving that problem, although I thought raising the Link RP cap would’ve proven more controversial since that isn’t totally related to full grids.

I was looking forward to the auto arms race

I voted that I loved the changes, the timing was just poor

I think a large amount of people fill the same spot I do. It’s a good change but should have happened earlier.

I think Alliance Selection would have completely revolved around filling out your 7-piece auto plan (we can do a 3 open side, so we need either a 3 bump side or a 2 bump side and a 2 over-and-back), etc.

I would have preferred some advance warning, but I think the changes are going to make for a much better champs.

While it benefits my team greatly, I still think high cones/cubes being valued the same as hybrid for super charging is kind of dumb. Should be rewarding the objectively harder and more time consuming location to score in. Hybrid bots on top tho w00t

That last poll had some interesting responses. I wonder how many people are actually recording judges, with such a large “don’t care” response pool. Alternatively, I imagine a lot of people were already asking for permission out of courtesy, which would also lead to an “agree” or “don’t care” response. I am a little interested to hear the rationale of those who don’t agree with the H202 changes (not because I have strong feelings for or against your opinions, but because I’m curious), so if anyone has some insight there I would love to hear it!

To be honest, my feeling is simply that if FIRST makes us all sign wavers saying we consent to be recorded, and has warnings about recordings at the entrances of venues, why shouldn’t volunteers also expect to be recorded by teams? Seems like a double-standard to me.

You could also make the argument that given that FIRST events are open to the public and roles like refs are public-facing, that they have no reasonable expectation of privacy, with the possible exception of in non-public places like volunteer rooms or judges rooms, but certainly not on the field. That said, I’ve never even considered recording a ref conversation, so it doesn’t particularly affect me either way.

I think the changes were needed but the problem is the timing if it was at week 3 - 5 it would still be good but now is a significant change considering there are no more competitions except champs. that’s why i am torn about this update

Thanks for the insight! I definitely understand where you’re coming from (especially with the point about public-facing roles), and I appreciate the response!

I expected teams who could fill the grid with time to spare to devote extra time to playing defense. I don’t think it was a forgone conclusion that we’d regularly be seeing two filled grids.

Should it have happened, or at least been announced, earlier? Probably, yeah. Am I happy it happened anyways? Absolutely.
