Now that everyone is planning their season - when is the best time to have a post-season event? We now have them from May to September and that gives everyone a choice I guess. Are more teams planning on and budgeting to attend one of these events?

If we hosted another ‘Brawl’ this summer - when is the best time and how many teams are looking to go to something like this?

Greg,

Now that you mention it… we are planning our 2nd annual ‘Indiana Robotics Invitational’, and we got the date set for May 5th, here in lovely Kokomo, Indiana.

No details are finalized for the IRI, but we’ll get them out soon. We will limit the number of teams, but we are not sure just how. Since this is during school, it will probably stay a 1-day event, and we will focus on getting teams with a ‘reasonable driving distance’ from Kokomo to attend.

In order for us to go to a ‘far away’ event like yours, it would be nice that it is after school is out. Also, we gotta know months in advance in order to not only get school board approval, but also the appropriate # of teachers, chaperones, and funds to travel.

I can tell you now that we have the BOMB listed on our schedule of events for 2001. Once you set a date, we will schedule it in with all of the other events, and we’ll plan on trekking down to Mt. Home. I will guess that you will double (at least) your attendance from last year.

In my opinion, a nice time to ‘Brawl’ would be mid-June. July 4th is a nice holiday, but it also is a time that many people spend with families.

The sooner you set the date, the more of us will come.

Take care,
Andy B.

This whole FIRST thing amazes me more and more. Teams are already scheduling their postseason events. River Rage 5 will be one of them. But THINK about it…we do not even know what the GAME is, the field size, the obect(s) that will be used and here were are planning on hosting events. Is there anything else out there like this?

We are planning for next summer as well, locking in funding for Battlecry@WPI 2 which will be sometime in Mid-June of 2001.

All summer events are a little harder to deal with especially for a college team as the support isn’t always there. For that reason, i like september/october events cause everyone is back and we have a full staff… But being able to immerse yourself into a summer tourney like Battlecry or the old Rumble is a good feeling…

Amy

I was always loved the mid-Julyish of Rumble… it gives people time to relax a bit from nationals and school… and just enough time to get the FIRST jitters back… I always felt that it was an ideal time… not too early, not too late… and usual a convienent time that people could get out of work, etc…

Speaking of post season events, is the Chief Delphi Invitational going to happen? We would LOVE to go.

I am from team 393, Full Metal Jackets, and we are from Indiana. We came to your tournament this past summer and had a ball…didn’t do very well, but it was great. As far as timing goes, we liked going in June. Our team camped, went boating, fishing, and enjoyed the whole experience. It was great timing! I would love to come back next year at the same time!
