Coach on team #419, Rambots, from UMass Boston / BC High and NASA, Mathsoft, Solidworks.
I’m really just curious as to what teams normally use.
Do you have the drills on :
- high or low gear?
- what gear ratio?
- do you use the clutch?
- how fast did you go from end to end of the playing field?
- how fast do you go in mph?
- can you still push/pull heavy bots?
- was your circuit breaker stable?
- did you strip your motors?
- whats your favorite drill brand? (for fun…)
thanks guys… i hope people post cuz i know it’ll come in handy for the many teams deciding their drive train as we speak…

Anton,
We consider this to be a trade secret. We give teams
very general advice if they ask about how fast a robot
should go, but the exact ratio, no, we don’t share this
information.
While we are all for cooperation, we are also looking
for small edges here and there.
This is one of them.
Are we out of the mainstream in this or do other teams
have similar information they consider important that
they keep to themselves?
Do tell.

Dr. J,
I agree, every team should have a few trade secrets that distinguish them from other teams.
This is, after all, a competition.

Uhhh. We vary the gearing between 1 and 10 ft/sec and let our drivers practise until they minimize their gymkhana (sp?) time. And of course they’re practising right now! How about your team?

well, okay… some teams gave it to me.
i’m not looking to copy… i’m looking around to make the best decision based on what all the teams do in general.
throw in a couple calculations here and there, and i’ll feel happier about the decision.
