Hello Chief Delphi! I’m from team 5013, the Trobots in Kansas City, Missouri. We are attending the Bayou regional in April 2025, and we will be bringing a small group of students, and we are seeking a scouting partnership with a team that has previously attended Bayou and has knowledge of the local teams and competition environment. Looking forward to seeing Trobots again! I’ll be inspecting at Bayou. The last time I saw 5013 was at 2020 Arkansas; I inspected Thursday and did queuing Friday and Saturday as Han Solo. I was also inspecting at CMP in 2022, but on Carver, not Newton.
I can’t help with team scouting, but for site scouting:
- TruValue Hardware is a mile and a quarter down Williams
- Home Depot is 3 miles away on Vets; take Williams, turn left at the first light after the interstate, on the right.
- Beau Coup restaurants from fast food to casual dining all along both Williams and Vets. Kenner has a thriving Hispanic community, so great one-off Hispanic restaurants as well.
- Hotels abound. Anything that says “airport” won’t be far away. I usually stay at the Red Roof at Vets and Williams; not fancy, but inexpensive and convenient. It shares a parking lot with a good Mexican restaurant.
Oh, and Dot’s! - If you go down Williams about a half mile past Vets, there’s a Dot’s Diner on the right. It’s a small local chain, I think 3 or 4 places. They have free coffee refills and the radio ad says “we’ll fill you up without draining your wallet”, and it’s spot on. If you need a stick-to-your ribs breakfast near Bayou at a decent price, Dot’s is where to get it.
