Power Distribution

Wheres the power distribution pdf? Am i blind or is it not there… yet?

The power distribution diagram is part of the “The Robot” section of the manual this year:

Section 5 - The Robot (includes the Kit of Parts)

This section describes the 2005 Kit of Parts and discusses all rules associated with building a 2005 compliant robot. There are several other documents that support the building of a robot:

It is not under that section. I have checked through every pdf file in that section and the diagram is nowhere I can find it. If you have it a direct link would be nice, please.

All i see in “The Robot” are the usual rules about what gauge wire to use etc… no diagram.

Interesting…I was just going by what it said on the downloads page. I don’t know where it is…

Does anyone know when FIRST i going to release anymore documentation on Eloectrical Systems that are more specefic?

First has already released the 2005 electrical diagram and it can be found either on the IFI website or on the First website. Here’s the link:

What exactly do you mean by more specific electrical diagram ? I think that’s the most detailed digram First is going to release. You can figure out the more specific connections by using the 2005 Electrical Diagram and some common sense .

roboticsjenkins, the already released documentation is all that you can probably count on for electrical. If you have questions, start a new thread and people will happy to help. Make sure you’ve looked at teh power distribution diagram, the robot section of the manual (section 5), the guidelines document (http://www2.usfirst.org/2005comp/Manuals/Guidelines_C.pdf) and all the spec sheets.

You mean it’s not a good idea to take a motorcycle battery and a drill motor lead in each hand and just hold the leads on the battery, thus showering everyone with sparks?

The power distribution diagram is on both the IFI site and the FIRST site.

2005 Electrical Diagram

OK, I’m not finding some info I’m looking for… where does it state which motors can/must be on the spikes, and which on the victors? The diagram shows some, but not all of the motors. In particular, window motors aren’t shown. Is this hidden somewhere else?

In the Robot Rules, Section 5
CIM motors and Fisher-Price motors must be connected to Speed Controllers. They may not be connected to Relay Modules.”
The other motors may be connected to spikes but must be fused accordingly…
“<R83> Speed Controllers may be protected by 20A, 30A, or 40A Circuit Breakers. Speed Controllers may power motors or devices of any size.
<R84> SPIKE Relay Modules must be protected with a 20A Circuit Breaker. Multiple devices may be connected to Relay Modules if desired (but only one motor may be connected to each Relay Module).”

Thanks for quoting the applicable rules. I had seen the first sentens of R78, but missed the part about “The other motors…”

I think I saw someone post in another thread that the Taigene shouldn’t be connected to a spike either.
