We got the new PowerMacintosh G5 in the store where I work today. Now I know not many people here like the Macintosh System, but I just have to say it is an impressive machine. I’ll be able to talk more about it later, right now I’m at work.

Do they look as kool in real life as they do in all of the pictures??
Yes they do. Even though the heat sync looks like it is CGI and computer graphics, it isn’t. The whole thing is really that shiny. And it comes with a plastic guard so you can display the inside of the machine without getting dirt and trash in it. The thing is incredible, the outside case is made of anodized aluminum alloy, and it stays cool. It is very quite, and I mean quite. I’ll let you know more later.

Sink.
Install Linux on it and post /proc/cpuinfo!
Yeah I know I always spell sink “sync”. But the host info on the machine is that the system is configured for 2 procs, but only has one at 1.6ghz, 80GB harddrive, 256MB RAM, and super drive. It’s a base model, we ordered a base model to use it as the demo in the store. The digital fiber audio is incredable, it sounds so much more clear and sharper then anolog audio. I’ll have more info soon.

awww whats the fun in a base model?!!?!!?!
Who cares?
It’s a PowerMac G5 either way!!
So, how many stares does it get? Can you post pics? I always figured that the ones on Apple’s website just made it look too good, and they’re really not that big.
The same goes for my PowerBook…I thought the thing was really, really tiny, but in person, yeah it was tiny, but bigger than I thought.
I heard the thing won’t even fit in most desks!
The new Apple Store I’m going to apply to will have their G5s in stock when the open.
What I wouldn’t give for a pSeries…
The Power4+, just the way IBM meant it…
PC Magazine tested out the Power Mac G5.
I imagine the results will be even better once Photoshop is optimized for 64 bits.
See
We have them at school.
