If one alliance uses the boost powerup, can the opposing alliance (during the 10 seconds activation time) regain control of the switch or scale, thereby earning the remainder of the boost?
There’s a diagram in the rules that shows how this works.
They can regain ownership if the scale and get 2 pt/s (plus 1 for obtaining ownership) but they will not get points for obtaining or having ownership of your switch. Your boost does not effect their switch.
There are about 5 different places in the rules I would need to quote to back this up. Please ask specifically if you want me to provide the manual information for this.
I cannot find this diagram. I see Figure 4-2, but that does not reference how ownership changing during a boost changes things, it only shows how stacking/queued power ups are played. Can you tell me what diagram you are referencing?
Sorry, I misread the question. I thought he was asking about changing ownership due to a FORCE.
Section 4.1 says that BOOST changes the value of the points in the table, per section 4.3. Section 4.3 says the points change from 1 per second to 2.
It doesn’t say that by playing a BOOST you automatically have OWNERSHIP. So I’m guessing that OWNERSHIP can change while a BOOST is in effect. And therefore the double points should transfer to the ALLIANCE with the current OWNERSHIP.
Q&A should be consulted. Because after all, all of these type of questions depend on how FMS was programmed. If someone doing the program made an incorrect assumption, it might be checked if it comes up in Q&A.
4.3: “Increases the points for OWNERSHIP of the SCALE from one (1) point per second to two (2) points per second”
Field video says “Boost will only boost the score of an element that your alliance owns, so if you don’t have ownership, boost will have no effect”
Section 4.3 Seems to indicate that if Blue alliance used Boost (say level 2), and Red alliance owns the Scale, that Red alliance would receive double points for having ownership of the scale. However watching the field video linked above it seems like they may be intending this to only give double points for if Blue alliance owned the Scale, and that Red in this situation would just be receiving 1 pt/s not the boosted 2 pt/s.
From experience typically FIRST would intend for the former interpretation (that only blue gets any type of advantage from its only power ups). I’m sure this will end up eventually on the QA for a 100% clarity shortly.
Good argument, except that videos are not the rules.
I agree that it is muddy, but the question Amanda asked was “Does boost give an alliance ownership?” That might have been what the no was in response to.
I 110% suggest someone on Wednesday ask in the Q&A (link in my signature).
Please also post the answer here.
I believe what you actually meant was to post a link to the answer here.
CD not being an official source and all, it’s always best to reference or link or quote official sources. And honestly, if you’re not reading Q&A, you’re going to miss a lot due to the various important items posted there.
As the rules are stated, not the video the points would go to the other team if they own the scale. Does need clarifying. If one was too use a force and boost at same time you would be okay but this is illegal based on the rules.
My question is what would happen if you hit the force or boost without any cubes in the vault, obviously you don’t get any points benefit but does the 10 secound clock prohibiting the other team from using a power up still apply?
In section 4.3, the last two sentences on page 39:
If an ALLIANCE plays BOOST of FORCE during the time when an opposing ALLIANCE’s POWER UP is active, the POWER UP is queued and becomes active immediately upon the conclusion of the currently active POWER UP. Once a POWER UP is played, it cannot be cancelled.
Presumably the first “of” should be “or”.
Why would it? You haven’t powered up the power up.
However, that would be an excellent question to ask in Q&A for an official answer. It’s not explicitly stated that it doesn’t apply…
Perhaps the better question is that if you push a VAULT button without any CUBES in that column, does that count as your one activation per MATCH? There’s something about not being able to undo a POWER UP - does that include not undoing an invalid POWER UP?
And can anyone figure out why there’s a definition difference between Blue Pulsing and Red Pulsing in Table 3-1?
