would it be possible to set it up so that it has a little alert or something near the top of the page when you have a new private message? Just a wee suggestion =)
You can set it to show a pop-up box when you have new PMs. That’s always worked for me.
Well half the time when im on my linux workstation that option doesn’t work.
You can also set it to send you an email whenever you have a message. OR… if you go wayyyyyyy… down to the bottem of the index, it will also tell you if you have a new message.
other than that, I’m sure brandon could do something… but when you view the site in 800x600 the nav bar is pretty full, so it might be hard to cram in a notice and still keep the nav bar on one line.
How about a huge mallet that come out of the top of the monitor and hits you. A nice cross platform warning without using the site. And it uses the little used mallet-in-monitor.
10 bonus points for you for creative use of mallet! i would have used an electro-shock system…
It can be easily programmed to alert you near the top of the page… but pop-ups work fine.
At the bottom of the forum page where all the forums are visible, there is a box that say “Private Message”. For example, mine say:
Private Messages
Ken L - You have 0 new message(s) since your last visit.
(You have 0 unread messages and 37 total messages in all your folders.)
That should be exactly what you are asking for. Its been there all along.
In the forum banner/header it’s saying
Welcome, DrTomBlinn.
You last visited: 01-04-2009 at 04:59 PM
Private Messages: Unread 1, Total 1.
but if I follow the link to the private messages page (private.php) and try to find the messages, there are none in my inbox or saved messages and I do not have any other folders set up.
Inbox contains 0 messages.
You have 1 messages stored, of a total 470 allowed. (Empty Folder)
(bar graph was here)
Jump to Folder:
Inbox (0 Messages)
Sent Items (0 Messages)
How can I fix this? If I really have an unread message, I’d like to read it. If I don’t really have an unread message, I’d like to be able to get rid of it.
Tom
^^^I have the exact same problem
A while back there was a spam problem on CD. A bot got into the forum by using people’s usernames as their passwords. It then sent out PM from normal users accounts, really bad stuff. Brandon’s only possible response was to wipe the spam from everyone’s accounts, but by doing so some people got stuck with the permanent PM count problem like you have. See here: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68506
Just send Brandon a PM and he should be able to fix it for you.
Its not permanent, I was able to delete it, but it was awhile ago and I dont remember how I got to it.
I think I had to go through and click view all messages or something. I found one in there which had a date from a long time ago and once I deleted that the count fixed.
Send yourself a PM, then go read it, and the count should fix itself.
