I recently saw one of these bad boys on Amazon and was wondering if it is legal to project our dashboard onto the driver station’s polycarb as a HUD. Obviously, pointing a really bright light straight onto the field would not be very nice, but if we could angle a projector up as to not direct the beam onto the field, I see nothing in the rules that prohibits this.
I saw ILITE’s paper about their AR HUD from 2014, but I have not seen anything about projected HUDs.
Is this legal? Anyone done this before? Any suggestions?
423 did something similar in 2012. In addition to the laptop running the drivers station, we had another laptop upside down (i.e. with the screen down and the keyboard in the air) with a camera feed and some pertinent robot information. Sitting over the second laptop screen was teleprompter glass at a 45* angle. With the screen brightness turned all the way up, it reflected off the teleprompter glass and the drivers could see it. It ended up not being very useful, but it still won us an Innovation in Control Award at MARCMP.
