prom- how was it?

i was wondering how the prom went. saw some very well dressed young women and gentlemen leaving the hotel for it. would it be worth looking into for our team next year?

Um. I didn’t really have a great time. the music seemed to all be techno or rap by request and not much music to dance to. I got the feeling that most of the people there were from the team that put it on.

However, I did see a ton of other people having fun so I’m sure it appealed to some people.

Lol, those kids weren’t there for roboprom. 2 local high schools had their prom’s back to back nights on Thursday and Friday night, but I could be mistaken.

I enjoyed it. We had nothing else to do thursday night, the team members who didn’t go just played video games. I hope that we are able to do it again next year.

A group went from my team [1251 TechTigers] and we all had a great time. It was fun just hanging out with various teams and socializing outside of competition for one night - and no Viper37, everyone there was definately there for the RoboProm; if there was another prom going on at the same time, it wasn’t in the same location. I hope they have the FIRSTProm again in the future and that more people go - it’s worth it.

Thanks team 399 for putting it on!

:]

Well i wasnt at the prom, but just to let you guys know Vipers is right there was two proms going on at the same time. They were both at the Westin Hotel so you might have seen the people going to there.

The RoboProm was at the Marriott Marquis Hotel.

:]

I talked to some of the folks in the nice cloths and they confirmed my theory. They said that some of them had their limo’s leave them at the Marriott because of traffic in front of the Westin.

But what do I know, Im just making this up…

Like Mtrek said before we had about 6 of 176’s members go an we all had a fantastic time! It gave us something to do, and it was great socializing with other teams outside of the competition. Personally i thought that was great because you could socialize without hurrying for your next match, or thinking your late. About the music, yes there was a lot requested by people, but thats what they wanted…they wanted us to have fun and listen to the music we wanted. I thought you could dance to 95% of the music that was played…it might have been rap an techno, but thats the kind of music you can dance to easily. I know everyone from my team hardly sat. It was a great time had by most people i talked to, and hope next year it can be done again!

I had a lot of fun

The two girls from 845 (cutting edge) that came had a lot of fun also

It was fun that for the first time I could walk around with a PIMP CANE (PVC) and not get things thrown at me for not being “cool” enough or because I was not part of the good dancing crowd.

It felt good to be able to dance how ever you wanted and nobody really making fun of you, that’s what FIRST is all about right?

So I hope that next year we can do it again and a special thanks to Brian and all of the people from 399 for all your hard work

The high school prom was at the western the robo prom was at the marriot

I’m from 399, and I agree that most of the music was techno and rap-ish, but that’s what most high schools play… Also we only had ~20 people there from our team, and there were around 150ish who showed up in the end. So we did make up a percentage but there were a lot of people not from our team there. I saw a lot of people having a lot of fun, I know I enjoyed it. Where else could you go and dance, and not have a single person care how you danced because most of them are about the same as you? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

well, i had a fun time. some team mentors/advisors brought some kids from their teams who didnt really want to go, and who sat outside complaining about it. all of them ended up coming in, and most of them had a good time. if you got up and danced instead of sitting in a corner, it was a lot of fun. everyone on my team tried to make sure no one was left alone at tables unless they wanted to be. one of the kids who didnt want to go in made a shout-out at the end of the night to everyone on our team saying something along the lines of “thank you team 399 for making me come in. it was really fun.” i know that made our team all sentimental. hopefully more people will come next year.
