Protective Helmets for Pilots

I believe there is a real threat of pilots hitting their heads together while on the airship. Do you think they will allow a protective helmet to be worn to prevent injury?

If your wanting to prevent head clashes, a hard helmet isn’t going to be effective or practical. Something designed for preventing head clashes between Rugby Players like this would probably be best.

I just want to know if it legal for a pilot to wear head protection

H12-G states that you can bring “non-powered Personal Protective Equipment (examples include, but aren’t limited to, gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection).”

So helmets are fine.

I thought this thread was going to be about protection from stray fuel shot at the air ship (misfiring shooter). I was hit directly on the head with fuel during week zero. I had an inspector hat on, but it had many mentor/coach and game pins in it and that certainly added to the discomfort from the fuel hitting my head.

I do agree that a pilot getting up from grabbing fuel may well run into the co-pilot. Or they may both reach for the same fuel at the same time.

Much as we’d all like the pilots to get into the game and wear steam punk outfits, it may be prudent to have some head protection-- they are protected from bots, but not from fuel and each other-- two unpredictable factors.

Google steampunk bike helmet. Tons of images of bike helmets that have been customized (copper paint and some decorative tubing) that could be made in about an hour.

The lacrosse gear could also be “back to a past future” modified to fit both the design and safety goals.

I think we’ll be seeing lots of pilots dressed to fly, lots of “arts” students out there have had six weeks to put the “A” in STEAM. And most of them will have safety (head, eyes and hands) designed in.

And a personal hope of hope is that the beloved “safety award” will be won by a team with the best pilot safety gear and not by a team that yells robot.

How about something from here? (with clear or light tint tenses of course)

Pith helmet anyone?

Or get a scrum cap as posted above and use some art tricks to age it
