I was expecting a bit of name conflicts anyway. There’s not much anyone can really do about that. I’d avoid it if I saw it as major problem, which it usually isn’t. There isn’t an app on the iOS app store with the name “Purple Alliance” so as far as I’m concerned for the moment it isn’t a problem. It might change to something like FRC RSL or Solid RSL or related to avoid conflicts and to pick up a nice domain later. Plus, it’ll separate the app more from the blue alliance to avoid accidental brand association.
Oh, and one more note is that ill probably be setting up that TestFlight beta with a placeholder app at first. It’ll mostly just be a feed with progress updates and then it’ll disappear eventually, being replaced with a real version of the app.
Check out FRC Tracker. I like it better than Spyder because you can upload/download photos of the robots. It’s in the app store under “iPhone only” but it also works on iPad.
I’d say that my app would be a bit more… well… user friendly compared to that app. A lot of the user interfaces will be more graphical and less menu-y. Information will just be available without having to tap into a million different screens.
Also, if anyone wants to participate in the beta, send me a PM with the email related to your iTunes app store account so I can add you to the beta when the time comes.
Nice! Looks great so far. If you need any people to test the app later on, I would love to. Awesome job!
Send me your email in PMs. I’ll make sure to add you, and anyone else interested, to the list when it’s available
Sent you a pm codehusky.
I am also really interesting in learning how to do Xcode and integrate APIs like the Blue Alliance but don’t have much experience. I would love to help/learn in any way I can. How did you start of?
Well, using Xcode is a bit of a learning experience by itself but once you’ve gotten rolling on a few half decent tutorials you’ll be right on your way. I’m not sure exactly where you want me to start from since I’ve been programming for years now, but I’ve done the majority of my api work in these past couple of years.
Loads actual team info now! :ahh: :ahh: :ahh:
Oh, haha, the cheesy poofs just so happened to be in that screenshot. I didn’t even notice that before uploading it.
Update on the beta situation, it might take a few more days until my account is set up with the developer program. Having some trouble getting Apple to trust that I’m a real human. I’ll make sure they know I am eventually.
Are you human though???
The app starting to look really good!
Hmm, I’ve been really interested in a good iOS tracker app. Mainly what I want is integration with myTBA. I just want notifications, really. I’ve been beta testing FRC Central, which just got released to the iOS store, it still has a few issues, and it’s the closest I’ve gotten to my ideal app, I’d recommend you look at that app too. I’m excited for other apps too. Good luck with your project!
Glad you think so. I hope I’m human.
Just checked out FRC Central. It looks alright, besides the fact that it just has too much going on (at least for my taste) to be very helpful. I mean, there’s so many buttons and things going on that it’s hard to “Think” I guess. I’m trying to make my UI as simplistic, intuitive but as functional as possible. I’m a very particular person, so this project will kind of be like a piece of art to me. Anyway, glad you’re excited!
Anyhow, have a demonstrational video.
The music is slightly overkill but I liked it.
… and if anyone was curious as to what it took to get the event profile page to look like this, have 45 minutes of programming in 4 minutes.
Screenshot dump of the night. Here’s all the progress up until tonight. I broke the refreshing on the team list, not sure how. Will look into it tomorrow
I’ve opened a discord server for The Purple Alliance. Make sure to follow the instructions posted in #verification
