Q&A Madness

Oh. My. Deity.

I don’t like Q&A; we already got that.

But, there are two things that, now the season has started, are driving me completely bonkers.

First, the new threads spawned from the Q&A Forum are making things a mess. The same discussion is going on in six different places. Three people ask the question, some people start new discussion from the Q&A forum, and then the original questions in the Q&A Forum is getting answered by the moderators (who seem like they’re all but ignoring the regular forums.) Having people ask the same question 756 times is frustrating enough, but then watching it have little thread-children and spawn itself all over the place is mind-boggling. I can’t keep up.

Second, when you spawn little devil-threads that confuse everything, the discussion bot that posts first doesn’t provide all that much useful information. Is it possible for the discussion bot to quote the message that the discussion spawned from? Either, the original message or the message from which the link was clicked?

This is all so confusing and maddening and I don’t think it needs to be.

I changed it yesterday, so the new discussion thread quotes the original question.

Brandon,

Is it possible to automatically change the “Begin additional discussion” link to “Join additional discussion” after the first “new” discussion has been initiated??

Just a thought …

Also, how does one go about locating the additional threads which have spawned from these Q&A additional discussions ??

Stu Bloom, I think what you are asking for is allready in place.

If someone has allready clicked the ‘Begin…’ link and a new topic was made, then the link will change and will link you to the topic that was created.

I might have an idea for a better system, but I want www.feds201.com to have it’s flag program up and running (which i have to code :)) (more detail on the FLAG program later) before i say what it is.

It does … or should, at least.

They are all located in a forum… ‘Extra Discussion’.

The amount of threads posted in the past few days are just extremely overwhelming. I can’t begin to keep up with anything at all. Even if I am not an answerer, I still would’ve ignored most of the general forum and others. Its simply too crowed with new threads. >_<!!!

I agree with M that its very confusing when people post at a million different place about the same topic. People simply can’t keep track of what’s going on. I suggest once a extra discussion is formed, the original thread get locked.

Mean while, I just looked at some of the threads inside Q&A… There are quite a number of them with 1 or 2 replies that answered the questions quickly and efficienctly. I even saw Brandon post an answer by a non-moderator who PM or e-mail him.
